A Song & A Friend
Learn more about me, my songs, and the creative process through conversations with friends who have inspired me over the years.
“What if you did a podcast?” This was a brainstorm by my longtime friend, Todd Bushong. We were having coffee at Abbey Coffee Co in Marion, Indiana. This was summer 2021. I had invited Todd to help me process and clarify my hopes and dreams for a re-newed music career: post-covid, as an aging hipster now in my 40s…how can I honor the back catalog of songs and experinces; while at the same time creating new opportunities? Could I grow my audience, could I reconnect with fans/friends who were in my music orbit 10, 15, or even 20 years ago? He suggested that a podcast could be a way to introduce new people to my catalog and re-engage previous fans.
Todd, was working as podcast editor for our mutual, long time friend, Erik Fisher and his shows. Erik joined us at the end of our coffee clutch, and was excited about Todd’s idea and offered to be a de facto “executive producer” and let my show live under the umbrella of his hosting. They screened my ideas for the first season in terms of format, guests, and song choice. They worked on the technical side at the outset until I got my more skilled at the production, which I now do for myself.
At the beginning of each season, I check in with Todd and Erik and get their feedback and suggestions.
So for these reasons, I always thank Todd and Erik at the end of each episode.
